5 Affordable Essentials

After trying many, many products from CVS, Sephora, and plenty of different beauty stores, I have finally settled with 5 products that have become my absolute essentials but are still very affordable.

1. Colossal Volume Express ($7) by Maybelline in Glam Black. Making my eyes pop is very important to me and I absolutely love the dramatic look of big, dark lashes. This mascara and the large brush multiply and lengthen without the clumping, getting that intense look of beautiful, full, look at me lashes.

2. Rosebud ($6) or Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm with SPF 25 ($7.50) . Keeping those lips soft and hydrated is very important ladies. You never know when a man might come around. I always have to have lip balm on me and these two are my absolute favorites. They are super hydrating and don’t make your lips dependent on them like Chapstick does. For the summer, I recommend using Jack Black Intense Therapy because it has a high SPF that will keep your lips from getting sun burnt.

3. Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder ($12). This is the only type of makeup I ever use on my face. If I have a blemish, it works perfectly as a concealer plus has acne medicine to clear skin. If I’m having a good skin day, I still use a brush to swoop it on just to even out my skin tone.

4. Moroccan Oil ($15). I am no stranger when it comes to the flat iron. This nourishing oil has saved my hair and keeps it soft and healthy. I know $15 may seem like a lot for such a small bottle but all you need is a dime size every time you use it and the miracle work it does for your hair makes it totally worth it.

5. In A Snap Top Coat by Orly ($7). I love painting my nails and having them always look freshly polished, making a good top coat an absolute must. This top coat is by far my favorite. It dries very fast, keeps my nails super shiny, and won’t chip for a long while.

Sparkling Summer Nights

I am absolutely in love with this summer’s hottest night time look, metallic and sequined minis. They are so fun and flirty yet very daring, and who doesn’t love a little sparkle. Metallic minis are the perfect show stopping dress for any party and stand out from your usual cocktail attire. I can’t get enough of this dazzling look, neither can Leighton Meester, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Lopez, or Ashley Tisdale.

Sexy Skirts

Maxi skirts are the go to item to look effortlessly chic this summer. They can be matched with absolutely everything, from crop tops and thong sandals to a trendy top with chunky heels. You can steal some style ideas from Rihanna, Ciara, Kristen Cavallari, and fashion icons Rachel Zoe and Blake Lively, who have all been seen rocking the maxi skirt trend. My favorite maxi skirt is the Cascade Convertible Skirt from Free People, which I pair with a simple tank top, flip flops, and piled on bracelets. If you’re looking for more of a bargain, Forever 21 has fabulous printed maxi skirts, like the Abstract Print Longline Skirt.

Striped Maxis

It is safe to say that stripes are in every season. The beauty of strips is that they can be incorporated into any piece of clothing or accessory, shirts, skirts, scarves, bags, floppy hats, etc. This summer, stripes have set a new trend that is absolutely irresistible. Striped maxi dresses are the hottest thing this season. They are comfortable enough to wear on a plane ride yet stylish enough to have dinner in at a fabulous restaurant. As seen on celebrities like Halle Berry, Hilary Duff, Lauren Conrad, and multiple times on Kim Kardashian, this versatile dress can easily be dressed down with a thin strapped pair of Havaianas or dressed up with layered necklaces and sexy sandals. I got my tank style maxi from Brandy Melville at a super affordable price. It is the perfect effortlessly chic throw on for the summer. I’m in love.

PLANK IT

I first came across planking when one of my friends uploaded a picture of himself lying on his stomach on top of a trash can face down with his hands by his sides and toes pointed. I just assumed he was drunk. Then a week later I see more pictures uploaded of my friends lying down in the same position in the weirdest places, like playgrounds, on top of cars, tables, etc. Clearly these people could not all be drunk and coincidentally doing the same thing so I decided to look up what exactly it was that they were doing. Planking was started by Gary Clarkson and Christian Langdon in 1997. The rules are that the planker must lie down flat on his stomach with his hands by his sides and have someone take a picture. Points are rewarded to those in the most unusual location. This game has spread to all different countries but this summer, it has really become its own trend. Planking has hit the teenage and adolescent world by storm, and now the celebrity world as well. Everyone is participating in this ongoing game including Katy Perry, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber and other Hollywood stars. Are YOU a daring planker?

Ask Men Survey, Cheating

Askmen.com released the results of their 2011 Great Male Survey, where 70,000 men participated from the United States, Canada, England and Australia, answering questions about everything from dating and sex  to their everyday life. As I was reading through the survey, quite amused, there was one statistic that caught my attention. When the men were asked “IF THERE WERE NO CHANCE OF YOUR PARTNER FINDING OUT, HOW LIKELY WOULD YOU BE TO CHEAT?” a whopping 72% of them said that they would never or most likely would never. Maybe it’s just because I live in Los Angeles or I just have my own personal misconception of relationships, but to me it has always seemed as though most people cheat. And even after this survey, I still think they do. Now I have never cheated on anyone nor have ever been cheated on, at least to my knowledge, but if a man, or a woman, cheat but they still love their partner and don’t take the person they cheated with seriously, is it really that bad? I see it as more of a response to an animalistic instinct. I understand if you want to break up with a significant other for cheating because you are hurt but if you share a family or are still madly in love, is it worth breaking off everything you guys had? I agree that cheating is bad but maybe it’s not as bad as most may think. What’s your opinion on cheating?

My introduction into the headphone world began when my crush was telling me about how cool his new Skullcandy headphones were as I smiled and pretended to know what Skullcandy was. Please don’t judge me, I know you have done the same thing. Since I pretended to be into headphones, I thought it would only be appropriate for me to google Skullcandy right when I got home, just incase the topic would come up again. As I was looking through the products, I started to get more and more into it. I started to really like the idea of having a chill pair of big ass headphones. So I ordered a pair. My crush on that oh so fine boy didn’t last long, but my new love for headphones lasts till this day. But even though I love headphones, I got tired of having the same thing for so long. So I decided to look up some new brands of headphones and have come across Atomic9. I have fallen in love all over again. I got their Gloat Fusia Headphones  for when I just chill out and thought I might as well replace my regular ipod earphones with something better for when I’m at the beach or running. Now this is when I got excited. They have earphones with different designs, some even embellished with swarovski crystal. I was in heaven. I decided to be extremely girly and got the Crystal Cat in Pink. But I’m not the only one who has a love for head/ear phones. Celebrities like Kellan Lutz from Twilight, Amanda Schull from Pretty Little Liars and One Tree Hill, and top artists LMFAO all share the same passion I do, and they all shop at Atomic 9 as well. Having a good pair of headphones or earphones is a necessity. They are their own accessory which never go out of style.Click Here to see all the celebrities that love Atomic9

Just Keep Running

Needless to say, the pressure to have a hot bod is a lot higher than usual during the beach season, especially if you live in L.A. Now I’m not over weight, but even I feel the need to drop a few pounds and get more toned. In order to do so, I have tried all different types of workouts, from sports, to weight training, to cardio. But, nothing works as quickly as running. No matter how many articles you may read on great workout routines or diet secrets that are sure to shed the pounds, if you want to loose weight quickly, don’t waste your time and run instead. Run as often as you can for as long as you can until you can’t run anymore. I know it sucks and it isn’t fun, but if you don’t want to do it, don’t complain about your pudge. If you are out of shape, start off with half a mile. Then work your way up to mile. If you keep it up, by the end of the month, you’ll be running a few miles no problem. Don’t get me wrong, other workouts like yoga or pilates are fantastic and you should definitely keep up some sort of strength training, but that doesn’t change the fact that if you want to drop the lbs fast, you need to run. All celebrities run to stay in shape. Even if they do some sort of ridiculous private trainer boot camp, running is a key part of their routine, always. If you don’t need to loose weight, it’s still the number one way to stay in shape, along with eating right. So whether you are trying to attain or maintain your sexy bikini bod, runrunrun.  How do YOU manage to stay in shape this summer?

Denim, Denim, and More Denim

Remember the denim craze going around 5 years ago when it seemed as though every outfit had denim, denim, and more denim? Well, it has come back. Denim dresses, denim shirts, even full body denim jumpsuits. Celebs are rocking the denim trend all over the streets this summer.

Victoria’s Secret babe Alessandra Ambrosio, actress Reese Witherspoon, and reality star Khloe Kardashian all wear denim shirt dresses, while Khloe’s sister Kourtney Kardashian wears a full body denim jumpsuit. Jessica Alba, Kourtney Kardashian, and Jessica Simpson all wear an open denim button down, which I love. I wear my button down wherever I go. I got tired of my cardigans so I have used this to replace them. Plus, it’s the perfect summer cover up. Now I have never been a fan of denim on denim, but Charlize TheronKatie Holmes, and Twilight beauty Ashley Greene show that it can definitely work. What do YOU think of the ongoing denim trend?
